Meet ‘Dr Orgasm’ – the man who gives women better orgasms by injecting their genitals with BLOOD
YOU'VE probably heard of Viagra for men, but what about the O-Shot for women?
It's the brainchild of Dr Charles Runels, who realised he was on to something when he saw the dramatic effect injecting his partner's clitoris with blood had on their sex life.
He'd been injecting his blood directly into his penis for a year, and his partner decided she wanted to get in on the fun.
"The next afternoon, she came to see me, and her orgasms came more quickly – very strong, ejaculatory orgasms. The passion, the thunder, the sounds that she was making..." he told . "That’s when I thought: I should try this on my patients."
And so the O-Shot was born.
But what actually is it? The procedure sees PRP (platelet-rich plasma) taken from a women's blood, which will usually have been taken from her arm.
Then it's injected into the clitoris and vagina ceiling. The result should be more lubrication, increased sensitivity and a quicker orgasm.
Charles trademarked the O-Shot in 2011 and it can only be carried out by him or one of the 500 people he's trained.
About 20,000 women have had it, but that doesn't mean everyone's a believer.
RELATED STORIES:
Many doctors reckon the shot is just a placebo, but according to Charles it really is life-changing. He claims it can help with all kinds of things, including scarring, incontinence, excess dyness and even female genital mutilation.
The doctor lives in Alabama, America, which is a fiercely religious area of the country.
That hasn't stopped him though, and demand is always high.
"It’s like a Baptist revival, except you’re injecting each other’s genitals," he laughed of one of his recent classes.
It's not all fun and games though.
Lacey (not her real name), 40, was first raped when she was 13. She was called a "whore and a lesbian" by her dad, and when she got married her husband repeatedly raped. He couldn't have sex unless she was in physical pain, and she was left with incontinence, scarring and herpes.
By 29 she was wetting the bed and hadn't ever had an orgasm, but doctors didn't help her.
She resigned herself to never knowing what it was like, but then she had the O-Shot.
Lacey noticed a change straight away, and whereas before she could only orgasm after half an hour or so of intense friction, suddenly things were different.
She could climax much quicker, her incontinence went and she felt much more confident.
This kind of story is why Charles is passionate about what he does.
He suggests the O-Shot has an 85% success rate, but more important to him is how much it helps women who've been through sexual trauma.
"That’s my revenge [against rapists] – to say ‘Eff you’ and give women their flower back," he said.
Many might think it's weird that a man would be so obsessed with helping women orgasm.
He wonders if he started this kind of thing because he knows what it's like to have something that's embarrassing to talk about.
Charles suffered terrible acne as a teenager, which was so bad he needed X-ray treatment to help.
He's since needed treatment for melanomas on his face, which all gives him an insight into what his patients are dealing with.
