The cows are usually grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures and will usually set you back £45 in a top-end restaurant.

However, Aldi is selling two fresh Wagyu burgers (340g) for just £2.99, from today, in stores around the UK.

In comparison, you can get two burgers of the same size in Asda for £3.50 or £3 for two frozen burgers in Iceland.

A spokesperson told The Sun online that there is limited stock and “once they’re gone, they’re gone”, so anyone hoping to snap up the bargain will have to be quick.

The burgers get their name from the famous Japanese Kobe Wagyu, which can sell for up to £500 a kilo in Japan.

It is known for its distinctive marbling of fat, which melts into the meat while it cooks to make it even more juicy and tender.

It is supposedly “healthier” as the mono-unsaturated to saturated rate ratio is higher than other types of beef.
