‘I’d have been horrified if my mother had done it’

The angered mum went on to argue that parents should be doing more to protect their children’s privacy

IT’S a given that most proud parents love uploading snaps of their kids to social media, but pictures being shared of tots in the bath or naked have now sparked a furious debate online.

user Charlotte A(402) took to the site to tell of her horror after at seeing numerous photos and videos of children on Instagram.

The angered mum went on to argue that parents should be protecting their children’s privacy.

Some users agreed with her, but others were quick to share that they couldn’t see a problem, adding that she needn’t be as uptight when it comes to nudity.

Charlotte said that she'd recently seen quite a few images showing “naked kids and babies” on Instagram, either running about without clothes or in the bath.

She explained: “This really bothers me and I don't know why! I've had to unfollow a few people.

“But I don't understand why you'd put a nakey video of your kids on the internet for everyone to see? I mean really who knows who is looking at that and I just feel bad for the kid.”

She went on to say that mums and dads should remember that these photos will remain visible on the web in the future.

She went on to say: “As an adult I'd be horrified if I knew as a kid my mum uploaded a naked video of me and it was still on the internet,

“Is nothing private anymore? I don't upload photos of my son's face though (used to) because again I think I wouldn't want my baby photos online so why should I share his?

“I really don't get it. Am I thinking too much into this?”

Charlotte did find a supporter in user Lisa H(2385), who said she agreed with the comments.

Lisa wrote: “It really annoys me and I have deleted people for the exact same thing in the past.

“I hate seeing it for exactly the same reasons. Too many pedos kicking about to be plastering naked or semi naked pics of your children all over the shop, no matter how innocent you think it is.

“It really just is not right at all! Pet hate of mine in case you couldn't tell.”

Helen S(1536) also said that felt it was wise to be cautious when it came to uploading snaps - but added that in her mind it was a matter of personal choice when it came to mums or dads sharing.

She added: “I have pictures of all my children online and some of them naked on the beach or in the bath, although the bath shots they tend to be sitting in bubbles or mountains of toys,

“I think it depends on what you’re comfortable with? We are a very liberal family when it comes to nudity generally.

“To each their own and don't judge others is the best approach I think. I do find the idea of not even allowing your child's face online quite difficult to understand.”

However, other members of the website disagreed with her stance.

LisaH said: “That's good you're so liberal. We are too, but not online, I just remember reading a few years ago a paedophile website in Finland had been taking photos from Facebook pages and the parents complained but couldn't take action because it was a different country.

“And I just think if it's that easy on Facebook, Instagram is so much more accessible and worldwide.”

Meanwhile Lizzy C(20), didn’t see an issue.

She said: “Doesn't bother me in the slightest, at the end of the day we are all born naked.

“I assume none of these images are remotely explicit or taken against the child's will. I'm guessing they are just capturing a happy moment.

“The naked body is such a taboo these days, it really shouldn't be.”

Helen S added that she would happily have pictures of her kids on display, even if some contained nakedness.

“I just don't equate nakedness with sex or potential paedophile activity, as some do. I think it's a very British thing”, she added.

“We live in Germany and previously lived in other more liberal countries and I think that's influenced my approach.”
