Be warned Niall Horan, going solo doesn’t always work out so well… as these 10 singers whose careers tanked prove
Attempting to go solo is a common move for former band members, but it doesn't always go to plan
ONE Direction's Niall Horan has recently announced his plans to begin a solo career, but does the singer have reason to be cautious?
While the boyband became a mega pop sensation, it remains to be seen whether Niall can make it alone.
One Direction aren't the only band to have parted ways in order to pursue solo careers.
However, while it may be a common move, it hasn't paid off for many.
Remember these former band members who flopped when they went solo?
Mark Owen
Mark Owen, best known for his success in Take That, didn't have a great deal of success when he decided to go solo.
While a couple of his first singles broke the top 10 in the charts, it was all downhill from there.
His debut album peaked at 33 and ironically his subsequent collectionHow the Mighty Fall was even more of a flop and didn't even make the top 40.
Nadine Coyle
Girls Aloud had a great deal of success in the noughties and even won a BRIT award.
Yet, Nadine struggled to go it alone and her single peaked at 47 in the charts.
Undeterred and after a brief hiatus from music, Nadine has alluded to plans to release another album later this year.
Lee Ryan
When Blue parted, Lee Ryan decided to pursue a solo career.
However, it was short lived and Lee's only album failed to reach the top spot in the charts.
Record sales were so poor, in fact, that the fourth single that was due to be taken from the album was never released.
Mollie King
While her debut solo album is still yet to be released, it doesn't look promising.
Her only single since she decided to go solo, Back to You, failed to rise above 90 in the charts.
