Jeremy Kyle Show is accused of ‘transphobia’ over mum who discovered her son’s dad was living as a woman on Facebook
Viewers did not agree with Jezza's treatment of the transgender woman... and took to Twitter to discuss their shock
FANS have branded Jeremy Kyle ‘transphobic’ over a row between two exes, after a mum discovered her son’s dad is now living as a woman.
Amy was demanding answers when she came on today’s show, after her ex of five years publicly announced her new identity on Facebook.
The news that her college sweetheart James was now living as a woman, called Morgana, came as a shock to the mum-of-one.
Amy claimed James, who she is still in love with, ended their relationship abruptly, leaving her to care for two-year-old son Theo.
Sympathising with Amy, who continued to refer to Morgana as ‘he’ despite her decision to live as a woman, Jezza said: “Three months ago this lady found out over Facebook that James is transgender, and is now living as a woman called Morgana.
“You were gobsmacked, you were upset. You talked about being stabbed in the back. But you said the worst thing was you weren’t told.
“This is not about transgender. This is not about someone fulfilling what they have always want to be. It’s that now Morgana’s focus is on her, rather than her son.”
Fans took to Twitter to discuss their shock.
Among them was Emily Carney, who wrote: “Is it just me who thinks Jeremy Kyle is being transphobic and inconsiderate this morning???”
Anthony Knight added: “Honestly, the way #JeremyKyle presents/talks about Trans people is just gonna create more transphobia. That kid is gonna love having 2 mums!”
While Amy / Salt and Chic said: “The transphobia on this morning episode of Jeremy Kyle is astounding.”
And Georgia Peri wrote: “Jeremy Kyle is siding with the woman that is being horrible to the transgender woman, are you being serious?”
Graham Genius joked: “Being Trans isn’t such a big story anymore… Being called ‘Morgana’ is #jeremykyle”.
As Morgana joined the panel on stage, Jezza continued: “Maybe your ex is finding it hard right now because you weren’t honest up front.
“I said outside before you were on the stage, it’s one of those issues that we would always deal with sensitively.
“Yes you are who you are. But why do you have to come out and make a big show about turning around wanting answers? This is about a two-year-old child.
“I imagine she thinks yes, that’s your life – but how confusing is that for your son? As a mother, she has concerns.
“The third and most unforgiveable thing is you didn’t have the courage to tell her – that’s the issue here.
“You yes very bravely have made this transition. You’ve made this massive decision, and everyone would applaud you for that.
“But you haven’t taken her feelings into consideration. And you cannot in any way say that you put the child’s feelings before your own.
“And you come out and you give it all that. And I’m telling you categorically that’s not what you should do if you’re trying to be taken seriously.
“It’s about your son, it’s not about how you dress.”
Amy claimed her ex was not supporting her and Theo financially but Morgana, who cares for his son while Amy is at work, firmly denied this.
The Jeremy Kyle Show is on ITV every weekday, at 9.25am.
