How to get your baby to sleep on a plane: Mum invents device to soothe infants on long-haul flights
A Sydney based mum has come up with an ingenious solution that will allow your children to fall blissfully asleep on busy flights
PARENTS of babies (and travellers alike) will often travel in fear of a crying tot while flying – be it their own or somebody else’s.
For the mums and dads of the tearful babes it equals a mad panic to try and stop the racket while other passengers look at you in annoyance.
You become stressed out and so does your child.
However, help is at hand.
A Sydney based mum has come up with an ingenious solution that will allow your children to fall blissfully asleep on busy flights.
The clever product takes the shape of a bag that unzips and pops up - creating a covered bed for your baby that blocks out light and noise.
High School teacher Emma Lovell invented the device after having to fly back and forth from Sydney to the UK to care for her sick mum with her five-month-old baby Aimee.
Emma told : “So I would take a huge sheet and masking tape to try and create a tent around her.
“I found myself as the envy of other parents. It was crap but it was better than nothing.”
When she then looked online for a solution, she couldn't find something made for babies travelling, so with the encouragement of her husband she decided to make her own.
Emma then came up with the , which can be used on planes - or as a buggy cover when out and about.
The mum-of-two added: “It means when they're on holiday, parents can go out to dinner and have their baby sleeping in the restaurant.”
Her company officially launched 18 months ago and the product is now stocked in over 50 retail outlets, as well as online.
Emma has even got distribution deals in Malaysia and Singapore, and is hoping to now expand internationally into the US and Europe.
Customers of the Flybabee seem love the product – with some parents even emailing Emma to tell her how thankful they are for it.
Emma added: “They say ‘I don't know how I lived without this’”.
