PICTURE the scene: you've fulfilled a life-long dream of owning a boat, so are feeling pretty smug as you walk along the harbour to visit it.

Then you're gripped with an icy fear - your boat's been pinched! At least it must have been, because why else isn't it sitting happily in its mooring?

Well, as far as this guy's concerned that probably would have been preferable.

him seemingly talking to someone in stunned amazement as he realised his dream boat has SUNK.

It was taken in an American harbour and has already been looked at over 300,000 times.

Yep, that sure is one costly mistake. Especially as Reddit users estimate the boat cost around £150,000 ($200,000).

So exactly what happened?

Well, it's thought the drain plug was left out of the boat. To the uninitiated, that means water could get in and is why it's now tipped over.

Luckily for the sailor, a rescue mission was put into action and things weren't quite as bad as they initially seemed.

Another picture has been uploaded, and it shows the boat proudly floating back on top of the water.

Water is being pumped out as the vessel is seemingly kept afloat thanks to giant air bags.

Phew! They managed to retrieve it

It's not totally good news though, because fixing the electrics on the ship will likely cost thousands. According to one Reddit user the engine will now be pretty much "scrap", although not everyone agreed.

Another argued: "Seriously unless this has been sitting underwater for years and has barnacles growing inside the cylinders this won't cost more than a few thousand to get the engines running again."
