Woman turns 105… and her only birthday wish is for ‘a fireman with tattoos’
Ivena Smailes had a racy request for her 105th birthday and the local fire brigade were happy to help
SHE may be 105 but Ivena Smailes still had a pretty racy birthday wish.
All she wanted was a hot fireman with tattoos to bring her a birthday cake – and that’s exactly what she got.
Ivena, known as Aunty Ivy, celebrated her 105th birthday with friends and family, including daughter Jane, at the Addison Court Care Home in Gateshead.
To make her birthday wish come true, a beefy firefighter from the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service climbed through her third floor window to deliver her sponge cake.
Care home worker Debra Carter said the Gateshead OAP had put the request on her “bucket list” and that the local firefighters were happy to help.
She said: “Ivena’s been with us for three years now, and she’s got a fantastic sense of humour.
“On her bucket list this year she wanted a cake delivered by a fireman with tattoos. “We’ve managed to find one and the fire brigade have been fantastic about it. They were arguing over who was going to climb the ladder and deliver it to her.
“For her birthday last year she tried to get us to climb a tree. She always tries to find something we can’t do.”

The tattooed delivery man wasn’t the only burly fireman she got to attend the knees up.
The whole force came along for a slice of Victoria sponge with Ivy.
“No one would believe she’s 105, she doesn’t look it and she’s got a fantastic sense of humour,” said Debra. “She even had her first selfie today to celebrate.”
And if all those candles prove a fire hazard, at least she was in good hands.
