Experts demand sexual health ads be run in dating apps to tackle rise in infections

Apps like Tinder encouraged to take active role in sexual health

DATING apps such as Tinder should help to tackle a rise in sexual infections by running free adverts for condoms, health experts say.

Cases of syphilis rose 76 per cent between 2012 and 2015, while gonorrhoea rose 53 per cent.

Dating apps should promote 'safer sex messages'

Sexual health expert Dr Olwen Williams, of Wrexham Maelor Hospital in Wales, said: “Dating apps should be reminded of their obligation to people’s health.”

Jo Hinchliffe, from the Family Planning Association, said: “We would like to see dating websites and apps help promote safer sex messages.”

A Tinder spokesman said there was no evidence of a link between the app and sexually transmitted diseases.
