Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Dr Nassif said: “This has been the most rewarding experience in our lives, because there are a few patients who didn’t ask for anything.

“We are able to help someone who was born with a disease they didn’t ask for.

“Sometimes they don’t know that there are doctors available to help or maybe they’ve tried to have a procedure once or twice which didn’t go well."

Dr Nassif added: “We are diving into their lives by going to their homes, dealing with their families, which are a lot more intense and very heartfelt than seeing patients sitting across our desks.

“Every story is a tear-jerker, as every story goes on and accelerates, the story gets more intense – you fall in love with the characters and you feel bad for them, then you cheer for them when they’ve improved.

“And we don’t make people perfect, we try to make them feel normal again, this is very hard surgery.

“There are lot things we really can’t really fix, so we try to make them look better.”

Around 4,000 people were cast in the show, but only certain number qualified for surgery.

“Some patients need a hospital and years of surgery and care, which they can get by a university hospital and have that taken care of,” Dr Nassif explains.

“In this show, we have to be able to find patients that we can fix. Some of them are so difficult, for example, a lady had cancer surgery of the face and then had radiation to help with the cancer.

“Once you have radiation in the area, there are certain things you can’t do because of tissue damage and it’s pretty much impossible to fix.”
