‘Tell my son I lied to him?’

Prankster parent divides Mumsnet users by LYING to his son about school holidays

The dad posted on the forum asking if he should reveal the truth behind his deception with a mixed response

A CHEEKY dad has asked Mumsnet users whether or not he should reveal the truth behind the lie that he has told his son.

User DerekSprechenZeDick announced to his boy on Wednesday night that he would have to go into school the following day as the holidays were over.

His unsuspicious son, coincidentally woke up on Thursday morning with a “super bad fake cough”, belly ache and hurt toe that prevented him from attending classes.

Rather than calling time on the prank the impish father allowed his son to continue to think he was skiving.

He posed the question to Mumsnet users: “How ill should I let him get before I let him know I was messing with him and he has weeks yet?”

Many responders were outraged by the deception, concerned that the prank would ruin the boy’s summer break.

One said: “I'm not sure if I'm having a sense of humour failure, but why would you ruin some of his holidays by telling him he's going back to school early?”

“I don't get the joke I'm afraid,” agreed another user.

One Mumsnet commenter added: “That's really mean, why did you tell him last night he's going back to school especially if he's got angst about it?”

DerekSprechenZeDick responded to the criticism saying: “I told him last night in a jokey way that he had to go to bed early coz he has school. He laughed. I didn't think he believed it Til the fake illness' started this morning.”

Some users jumped to the father’s defence saying: “Oh come on, it's funny. Messing with your kids is one of the perks of parenting.”

Another agreed, saying: “An awful lot of sense of humour failures here.”
