Twitter users mock Oxford University students on University Challenge for getting simple pop music questions wrong

Turns out that every team has their Achilles heel

VIEWERS were left giggling after Oxford University failed to dazzle in one particular segment on University Challenge… the pop music round.

As the four brainiacs geared up to answer some questions on popular culture, they were felt feeling a bit red-faced.

Jeremy Paxman looked amused as the team listened to clips from The Cure’s Close To Me, The Clash’s Rudie Can’t Fail and George Michael’s Faith.

Looking at one another in complete bewilderment, the team from Oriel College failed to grasp at the answers.

Jeremy couldn’t stifle a giggle when the students confused  iconic British band The Cure for US rock group Modest Mouse.

The team failed to produce an answer after listening to The Clash clip, sending viewers into a frenzy.

An irate Twitter user said: “YOU PHILISTINES!! How have four students not heard music by The Cure or The Clash during music round!?”

Another asked: “What do students listen 2 nowadays?”

When the last track was played to the Oriel College team, it finally looked like they could be having a breakthrough.

As George Michael’s Faith blared out in the studio, contestant Monaghan excitedly suggested an answer to the team.

Sadly, they went for the pop singers band Wham! instead of the solo singer-songwriter.

On Twitter, a number of viewers mocked contestant Siantonas for not being able to get to grips with the pop music round.

One said: “No wonder Siantonas can’t get George Michael – he has clearly time-travelled from Pre-Raphaelite times.”

Another asked how Siantonas was meant to get any questions right when he clearly specialised in “Defence Against the Dark Arts”.
