In San Jose, the lactating ladies carried out a "mamathon" outside the Legislative Assembly to protest at the recent dismissal of a secretary, sacked for breastfeeding,  by the deputy of Costa Rica's Citizens' Action Party.

Signs calling for a change in the breastfeeding law were clutched by the women who dubbed the deputy an "Abuser".

Other celebrations took part in China, Columbia, Venezuela and Romania.
