‘Rowling, you owe your fans a BOOK!’: Harry Potter fans gutted that Cursed Child is basically ‘just a script’
Hundreds of fans queued until midnight on Sunday to buy the first Harry Potter book in nine years - but some have been left disappointed after reading it
AS hundreds of Potter fans fought to get their hands on the latest instalment in the Harry Potter series last weekend- many have already slammed the new book for not being the "novel" they expected it to be.
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child sees the old gang in their mid-30s struggling with their past and parenthood.
The latest book is a script of a new story for a West End play written by JK Rowling with director John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne - which is clearly stated on its front cover.
And if that wasn't clear enough, the Harry Potter author herself even tweeted about it.
But it hasn't stopped fans taking to , to express their disappointment that they ended up with a "play" and not a "book".
Emma Green, who rated it one star, wrote: "I hated this book so much I wish I could unread it.
"I love the Harry Potter novels, they are my favourite books I've read them so many times but this isn't J.K. Rowling at all. There was no familiarises with the characters. It felt rushed and just wasn't very exciting to read at all.
"It just didn't fit with what we already know about the characters. Very disappointed. "Wasted £10 on some rubbish I read in less than two hours. I really wanted to love this book."
Another wrote: "Rowling, you owe your fans a BOOK! I like to rename this Harry Potter and the great scam."

While another added: "Really disappointed with this 'book'. NOT what was expected.
"Very disappointed -a waste of money I only gave it one star because I couldn't give none."
One added: "This book (I don't even know if I can call it that, as it's more of a script, told entirely through the characters' dialogue) takes its place alongside it as a horribly written version of the Harry Potter story.
"It lacked a good plot and developed characters. It ruined my childhood by screwing up the way I imagined Harry's future. I'm not sure that Rowling even wrote ANY of it. It let me down. Save yourself the disappointment and don't read this.!
Another angry Potter fan wrote: "Feel like an utter fool for not reading the words of JK. "It was not written by her and it is a SCRIPT.
"It is a script and not a book or story. There is not characterisations. It is flat. Terrible."
The Cursed Child is the most pre-ordered book since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out in 2007.
The play officially opened in London last weekend to coincide with the book’s release and tickets to the play has sold out until May 2017.
