‘If it had popped, I would have died’: Teen girl looked six months’ pregnant… but it was just a cyst with 10 LITRES of fluid inside it

A TEENAGER has thanked doctors after they removed a cyst containing 10 LITRES of fluid was safely from her stomach.
Bethany Lane, of Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, noticed her belly began to grow before Christmas.
The worried 16-year-old went to James Cook University Hospital for tests which showed a cyst on her left ovary - and it began to grow in astonishing fashion.
Bethany’s ovarian cyst was 35cm long, 28cm wide and 24cm deep.
It contained an astonishing amount of fluid which, had it burst, could have poisoned and killed her.
Soon afterwards, she was visiting someone in hospital when she collapsed.
The youngster said: “It really started to hurt, like someone was stabbing me on my left side.
“It got so big, it started pressing on the tube between my kidneys and bladder, so one of my kidneys started to fail.
“And if it had popped, I could have died.”
After her operation on June 14, Bethany lost nearly two stones in a single stroke and has recovered quickly.
She said: “I had keyhole surgery to have the cyst removed and only got left with three tiny scars.
“I’m amazed by the results and people should know how amazing doctors are these days.
“I couldn’t have asked for better doctors, nurses and staff on the ward.
“They said they’d never seen a cyst as big in someone my age.
“They also told me it might take two weeks before I could walk properly but they did such a good job, it only took two days."
Bethany, who hopes to go into child care, said the hospital’s doctors, nurses and surgeons did an amazing job.
She added: “I’m just so grateful. Hospitals sometimes get criticised but I can’t thank them enough.”
Consultant Dr Suzie Peatman said: “Removing Bethany’s cyst took a lot of work from a lot of people to get right. It was an excellent team effort.
“We are really happy she’s recovering so well.
“I would advise any woman concerned about any unusual symptoms to contact their GP.”
