Meet the rabbit who weighs as much as a seven-year-old and more enormous animals

The Sun told yesterday how Major the Great Dane is in the running to be crowned the world’s tallest dog, but he is far from the only outsized pet.

Take Ralph, who at nearly 4st was named the world’s biggest rabbit in 2013, weighing more than an average seven-year-old child.

Owner Pauline Grant said at the time: “The worst thing is that he is moulting at the moment so everyone is covered in rabbit hairs.”

The Continental Giant is the son of champions – before he took the title, both mum Amy and dad Roberto had spent time in The Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest rabbit.

He guzzles £50 worth of food a week at his home at the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust and has a ­fondness for Weetabix.

Major, on the other hand – who is 8ft tall on his hind legs and 4ft 3in from paw to shoulder – gets through milk, eggs and biscuits as well as 2kg of beef a day.

Owner Brian Williams, of Penmaen, near ­Swansea added: “He’s such a fantastic animal but afraid of his own shadow.”

The 65st pig

BORIS  was named Britain’s fattest pig in 2013. He is four times heavier than average. Farmer Paul Parfitt, of Helston, Cornwall, said: “He’s the most laid-back pig you’ll ever meet.”

The 2½st cat

GINGER tom SPONGEBOB was the world’s fattest cat. His waist was  27in. The puss, from New York, was so overweight he could not clean himself and he died in 2012 aged nine.

The 4ft fox

NEARLY twice the size of a normal fox and said to be biggest ever found in Britain. Trapped in a garden in Maidstone, Kent, in 2011 after killing a pet cat.

The 6ft 4in cow

BLOSSOM was named the world’s tallest cow by The Guinness Book of Records when she died last year.

Owner Patty Hanson, of Illnois, said her favourite things were oats and chin rubs.

BIG JAKE is 6ft 11in to his shoulders and 10ft to his ears and is the tallest horse in the world. No saddle will fit him and owner Jerry Gilbert, of Wisconsin, uses an HGV to move him.

The 7ft 4in dog

ZEUS the Great Dane from Michigan was forerunner to Major as tallest dog. To get a drink he would walk up to the kitchen sink. He died aged five in 2014.

The 10ft crab

BIG DADDY was the biggest Japanese spider crab until he died in February at 80. Scott Blacker, of Blackpool’s Sea Life Centre, said: “Occasionally I’d climb in the tank with him.”

The 25ft snake

MEDUSA the python from Kansas City was named the longest snake in captivity in 2011 and needs 15 people to hold her. She weighs 300lb and eats deer once a fortnight.
