Do you ever buy wine at the weekend? Here’s the surprising reason why you really shouldn’t
Mobile shopping app Ibotta revealed that there's a surprising reason why it's best to buy your wine on a weekday
IF you tend to celebrate the end of the week by picking up some wine from your local supermarket, then you could be making an expensive mistake.
Mobile shopping app revealed that there's a surprising reason why it's best to buy your wine on a weekday, rather than holding on until the weekend before topping up your stash.
It's no surprise that the weekend is the most popular time for most of us to bag a bottle or two, but it seems as if supermarkets have been cashing in on this trend.
After rifling through 50 million supermarket receipts, researchers revealed that wine tends to be more expensive on Saturdays and Sundays.
These shocking findings are based on a study of US stores, but it's possible that supermarkets on this side of the pond are using the same tactics.
To avoid any potential price hikes, you should plan in advance and aim to get your supplies in on a Tuesday.
This was found to be the cheapest day to stock up on wine, with prices down around six per cent compared to the weekend.
And it's not just wine which is more reasonably priced early in the week.
If you're looking to stock up on beer, then Monday is the day for you, when prices are slashed by around nine per cent on average.
Nine per cent more beer for your buck - now that's surely something we can all drink to.
