Why is Love Actually on television in July? There’s a very good reason
CHRISTMAS classic Love Actually has been screened on television twice in JULY… but there’s a very sensible explanation.
Even though ITV2 scheduled in The Dark Knight for broadcast, they swapped the Oscar winning blockbuster for a festive favourite instead.
It’s believed that ITV dropped The Dark Knight from their listings this month following the attack in Nice last week.
In one of the action-packed scenes, a lorry hurtles it’s way down a street, before crashing and being flipped over.
Earlier this month, the official ITV2 Twitter page posted: “Hi guys. Due to recent events we are screening Love Actually tonight.
“The Dark Knight will be shown at a later date.”
Luckily, it doesn’t seem that many people minded that the heart-warming romantic comedy made an early appearance this year.
Many praised ITV for broadcasting a film that helped to raise everyone’s spirits following the tragedy in Nice.
One Twitter user remarked: “Perfect choice. Exactly what we need to be reminded of tonight of all nights.”
Another added: “Big up to @ITV2, What a fantastic gesture putting Love Actually on.”
When ITV decided to show the Christmas film again last night, viewers were so chuffed that #LoveActually started trending on Twitter.
It’s not surprising that most people enjoyed the comforting film, which features an all-star cast including Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman and Colin Firth.
Sadly, there were definitely some summertime scrooges on social media.
One Twitter user said: “#LoveActually being on when it’s too hot to sleep just feels weird… save it for Xmas.”
Thankfully, ITV2 had the perfect response, uploading a clip of Hugh Grant dancing alongside the caption: “To all the haters who don’t like Christmas films in July”.
