‘I had an urge to push’: Stunned mum welcomes baby boy in the car park of a DOMINO’S PIZZA

Gemma Grainger's little boy Noel was due to be born via cesarean, but he ended up arriving in a rush outside a takeaway

STUNNED staff at a Domino's pizza rushed to help a woman as she delivered her baby in the restaurant's car park.

Pregnant Gemma Grainger, 35, was being driven to hospital by her partner Matthew Maltby-Russell, also 35, when she realised she needed to push.

Matthew had no choice but to pull over, with the couple ending up in the car park of the Domino's pizza in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

"Matthew was driving and I had only had a few little pains, so I thought I would be alright," Gemma explained.

"But in 10 minutes that pain had become unbearable and I looked down and saw I had Noel's feet hanging out of me and I had an urge to push.

"We were near town and I knew that Domino's has a large car park because we go there quite often.

"We pulled over in the car park and my six-year-old, George, was crying as I was lay in the backseat and Matthew was running around outside dialling 999."

Restaurant staff quickly responded, with five rushing outside to help Gemma.

Luckily things went well, with Noel born at 8.20pm on June 13 weighing 5lb 9oz.

"Staff in the takeaway could see what was happening and suddenly I looked up and five women workers were standing around me giving me towels and offering me water," Gemma recalled.

"The ambulance arrived at 8.25pm and the paramedics treated me for shock. I was just shaking - I couldn't believe it."

Gemma and Noel were taken to the Queen's Hospital in Burton-on-Trent, where Noel was checked over by doctors.

Mum and baby stayed in overnight and were then allowed home the following morning.

Noel is happy and healthy at over 7lbs - and he's even been back to where he was born.

The family took the tot in to see Domino's staff last weekend, where George had fun creating his own pizza.

Gemma added: "I can't thank those workers enough, they really calmed down George on the night and helped me when I needed it most."
