You may soon have to verify your age to watch x-rated content online
Adult sites that fail to check visitors' ages could face fines of up to £250,000 and could be shut down
THE government has proposed new powers to block access to online porn by forcing adult entertainment providers to add age verification to their raunchy websites or face their wrath.
Under the new law, every x-rated site would have to verify that their users are over 18 forcing porn lovers to register their age.
Erotic sites that don't comply with the rules could face fines up to £250,000, be banned from advertising or even shut down.
The government announced these radical measures as part of it's new on Tuesday, which is designed to protect children from accessing adult material on the internet.
The bill states: "A person must not make pornographic material available on the Internet on a commercial basis to persons in the United Kingdom except in a way that secures that, at any given time, the material is not normally accessible by persons under the age of 18."
