AS GARETH Bale prepares to take on Belgium in today’s European Championship quarter-finals, his father-in-law will have to watch the Welsh football star from behind bars.
Dad of Bale’s girlfriend Emma, Martin Rhys-Jones has a secret criminal background.
In 2013, he told a court room in Buffalo, New York, that had committed fraud against over 250 investors.
The crime involved swindling people to purchases “nearly worthless shares” for “inflated prices”.
After admitting to running the boiler room scam from Spain, the 52-year-old pled guilty to wire fraud conspiracy and is now facing a 10 years in jail.
Even though the Real Madrid star’s father-in-law conned investors out of £2.1 million, he has only been charged with a fine of around £188,000.
In a statement to , Bale’s dad Frank revealed that Gareth and his girlfriend Emma had never visited Martin in prison.
Frank Bale revealed: “They don’t talk about it much. I have met him once and that was a fair few years ago. Never seen him again since.”
Fraudster Martin hasn’t even met his two granddaughters, three-year-old Alba Violet and Nava Valentina, who was born in March this ear.
