Apparently, his perceived financial status could make him more likely to cheat

A recent study found men who see themselves as wealthy are not only more likely to play away from home, but also to find fault with their female partner’s appearance.

Researchers surveyed a pool of male and female students who were in serious relationships at , in China.

It’s all down to ‘mate value’ – and what he thinks he’s worth

The first half of the study involved a series of mind games – which convinced the participants they were either making a lot more or a lot less money than their peers.

They were then asked how satisfied they were with their partner’s look.

Interestingly, the women’s satisfaction was NOT affected by their financial state.

‘Money may facilitate cheating – although it doesn’t necessarily cause it’

But men, on the other hand, were FAR MORE LIKELY to say they didn’t like how their partner looked if they believed they were making lots of money.

Then, in a second study, the researchers tested how feeling wealthy affected their likelihood to approach an attractive member of the opposite sex and, eventually, cheat.

The subjects were given the same mind games, before being shown a picture of an attractive member of the opposite sex.

Wealthy men could be more likely to want MULTIPLE partners

The researcher told the men and women they would be able to talk to this hottie, before taking them into an empty room which was staged with a coat and bag to make it look like the person would be coming in.

Most men and women chose a seat further away, keeping a safe distance, however some blokes let their new-found financial status go to their head – and chose a seat closer to the sexy lady.

Rich men were also more likely to criticise their girlfriend’s looks

According to , this could be down to the evolutionary theory of ‘mate value’ – which makes the man want to nab an equally or more valuable partner.

Both finding a fault with his girlfriend’s looks and looking elsewhere could be signs that the man thinks he deserves MULTIPLE lovers – all of whom validate his idea of self-worth.

However Dr Kelly Campbell, PhD, an associate professor of psychology at California State University, told Cosmo: “Money may facilitate cheating, especially since people with higher incomes often travel for work, offering them more opportunities to cheat – but it doesn’t necessarily CAUSE it.”

Researchers reckon AT LEAST a quarter of married men cheat on their partners at some point, and 15 per cent of women are thought to do the same.
