You can still lose weight without having to give up sweet treats, says new study
New research has found that incorporating a dessert into your daily diet can actually help you shed the pounds
A NEW study claims that people don't have to ditch their sweet treats when dieting because incorporating a dessert into your diet can actually help you lose weight.
The research, which was conducted by professor Daniela Jakubowicz of Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine and her team, found that your sweet tooth can be beneficial to weight loss.
This is because, as professor Jakubowicz explains, our metabolism is significantly impacted by the body circadian rhythm.
In other words, the time we eat greatly affects how our body breaks down food and while many people know the benefits of eating breakfast, there is little known about dessert.
So, professor Jakubowicz and her team of researchers decided to find out and asked participants to eat a large breakfast combined with a pudding.
During the 12-week trial, 93 obese women were randomly selected to go into one of two groups.
The first group ate 700 calories at breakfast, 500 calories at lunch, and 200 calories at dinner while the second had a 200-calorie breakfast, 500-calorie lunch, and 700-calorie dinner and both groups had the same food in their breakfasts and dinners.
The aim of the study was to compare the differences in weight at the end of the day when one group ate a large evening meal and another had a big breakfast.
When the 12-week period came to an end, those who were part of the group who ate a large breakfast with a dessert lost, on average, 10 pounds more than the group who had a small breakfast, larger dinner and no pudding.
