Not your average WAG! Meet the former Miss England dental nurse who is dating British tennis player Marcus Willis
Jennifer Bate, 30, met Marcus at a concert five months ago - just in time to convince her underdog boyfriend not to give up on his tennis dream
BRIT tennis player Marcus Willis sealed a fairytale victory on the court yesterday, but he also has a fairytale romance worth celebrating off the court.
The 25-year-old Wimbledon underdog, ranked 722 in the world, stormed to victory against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis, but claims he would have given tennis up already if it wasn't for his dental nurse girlfriend, Jennifer Bate.
Marcus Willis, from Slough, was ready to abandon the sport months ago, and it was only thanks to mum-of two WAG Jennifer that he kept playing.
The previously-unknown underdog claims that 30-year-old NHS nurse Jennifer is the reason he decided to continue with the sport, after abandoning plans for a move to America and become a coach at the start of the year.
But Miss Bate, who comes from a family of dentists in Warwickshire, is no ordinary WAG - despite having the beauty queen credentials.
In 2010, when she was 24, the beaming blonde took part in the 'Miss Professional' beauty contest, where she beat 12 other career stunners to make it to the Miss England finals.
At the time, Miss Bate had just started to fall in love with the dental profession, saying: "It is incredibly rewarding to do this work, to free people from pain, and to give them a wonderful smile.”
And it really was all smiles for her and boyfriend Marcus as they celebrated his unexpected win.
The mum-of-two, who was pictured yesterday delightedly hugging her underdog boyfriend after the match, also took the title of 'Miss Charity' in her beauty queen days.
The Wimbledon WAG is still devoted to her dental work though - and she nearly missed her boyfriend's big match after some dental kit broke whilst she was at work.
She said yesterday: “I got so stressed. I’d come to work and I was missing the game.
"I called my boss to ask what to do and he said we would have to get the engineer in. So we had to cancel all the patients for the afternoon.
“I wasn’t even going to be here. I was not expecting this – that was incredible tennis.”
And she also spoke of how the couple met at an Ellie Goulding concert earlier this year, saying that there was an "instant attraction between" the pair.
She said: "A week after knowing him he said he was going to America and he'd given up on tennis.
"My brother loves tennis and said to me, 'this guy is a big deal', and so I told him we believed in him, give it a shot, it's worth it - and he did."
That was five months ago, and now the couple are still going strong, with Jennifer saying that the pair wake up every morning wondering if they are living a dream.
Patriotic Jennifer, who joked that she was a cougar for going for someone five years younger, watched her boyfriend with a Union Jack tied around her waist.
The animated dental surgeon showed off her delicate tattoo - a trio of swallows on her right arm - as she cheered her boyfriend on.
And straight after rising-star Marcus Willis sealed his win, he sprinted straight over to his stunning girlfriend to tell her he loved her.
All eyes may have been on the underdog athlete, but Miss Bate certainly stole the show from the stands.
