The Harry Potter films have inspired parents to name their babies after JK Rowling’s popular series, says new data

Research conducted by MooseRoots showed sharp rise in the names of characters since the release of the books and movies

A STUDY has showed a increase in the number of kids who have the same name as characters in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series and it's not just the boy wizard.

The research, conducted by , found that surprisingly, it's not just Harry that has seen an increase.

Hermione, Luna, Draco and Lucius had all seen a spike since the release of the Harry Potter books too.

According to the data, some of the biggest spikes of popularity on the chart were for the names Harry and Herminone, two of the main character in the infamous series.

The popularity of the name Harry greatly increased in a lot of European countries, but it's not definite this was because of the book series as it was already a popular name.

Although it isn't definite that JK Rowling's books inspired people to name their kids Harry, it seems to have skyrocketted up the ranks

While the name of, Harry's smart and brave best friend in the book, Hermione, also saw a jump in popularity.

In 2001, the name only featured as 15,344th most popular name in the US but by 2003 it had skyrocketed to become the 2,671st most popular name in the rankings.

Other girls names in the incredibly book series that saw an increase during the early 2000s were Luna, inspired by the Hogwarts student Luna Lovegood and Lily, after Harry's mum.

And for the boys, it wasn't just the names of the good characters that rose in popularity, the old-money supporters of Voldemort, Lucias and Draco Malfoy, also saw their names rise up the ranks.

Some parents came out on Facebook to announce that they had named their children after characters fro the books.

One wrote on the social media site: "We named our first daughter Hermione, She was born in August 2007 the year the last book came out."

And the popularity of the name Luna has also seen an increase

While another commented: "My daughter was named after Luna Lovegood I wanted to call her Luna Love but my husband said Luna is fine but not love lol so I called her Luna Milan".

Sadly for Ron, Albus and Severus, their names did not see a great increase in popularity, but fortunately for them, their name will live on with Harry's son.
