Ever wondered why toast tastes so much better than bread? There’s actually a scientific reason behind it
The Maillard reaction is a process which has been proven to make food a lot more delicious
SCIENTISTS have proven exactly why toast tastes so much better than bread and it's down to something called the Malliard reaction.
As a lot people will agree, toast is much more delicious than bread but not many people know the scientific reason why the toasted version does taste better.
It's actually down to something called the Malliard reaction, a scientific process which has been proven by experts to make not only bread, but all foods nicer.
The chemical reaction is similar to caremalisation and it sees the amino acids and sugar in bread unite when cooked which results in a form of non-enzymatic browning.
When this occurs, a new odour is created and flavour producing molecules are released, causing the bread to have an entirely different caramel-like taste.
Asexplains, the process works quicker when the food is being cooked between 110C and 170C because the heat evaporates any excess water.
And in keeping with the food theme, earlier today we revealed exactly why we have a hole in the middle of spaghetti spoons and the answer may surprise you.

Pasta fans will be very familiar with the spaghetti spoons but for those of you who don’t know what they look like, the clever utensils have multiple prongs to help you scoop out the pasta and a hole in the centre.
It’s possible that you might not have thought about what that hole in the middle is for, or you have assumed that it’s to help you drain your spaghetti – but it’s so much more helpful than that.
The centre of the spaghetti spoon is actually there to help guide the person cooking on portion sizes.
As many will know, judging the right amount of pasta you need for yourself or your family can be difficult – and sometimes you can find yourself throwing a lot of it away.
But if you take a handful of spaghetti and push it through the hole in the middle of your spoon, it will have measured the recommended amount of pasta for one portion.
And if you’re cooking for more than one person, simply repeat this process – you will never end up chucking away pasta again.
