Cakes at work are fuelling obesity crisis and harming our teeth, boffin claims
Workers told to bring in fruit and cut back on sweet snacks in the workplace
A WORKPLACE “cake culture” is fuelling obesity and harming employees’ teeth, a dental leader warns today.
Workers should bring in fruit instead of doughnuts, cookies and biscuits, Prof Nigel Hunt says.
The dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons will tell the Faculty’s annual dinner: “For many people the workplace is the primary site of their sugar intake and is contributing to the current obesity epidemic and poor oral health.

“Cake culture also poses difficulties for those who are trying their hardest to lose weight or become healthier.”
He will add: “I am not saying we need to ban such treats.
“But we do need a change in culture.
“Ideally, office workers should consider other alternatives altogether, such as fruit platters, nuts or cheese.”
