Want to stay Glastonbury glam in the mud? We run down the top tricks for staying hot no matter what the festival weather
Great hairdos for a glamorous festival weekend
FESTIVAL season kicks off this week at Glastonbury.
So it is time to get your hair ready for the hottest ticket in town.
Favourite celebrity festival hairdos this year include Millie Mackintosh’s pom-pom braids and US supermodel Kendall Jenner’s Nineties-style bunches.
To help you achieve a hair-raising headline set, we enlisted top stylist Andrew Jose to create this year’s hottest looks.
Here, Andrew offers a step-by-step guide to get you braidy for action in no time.
Then you just have to stay out of the rain . . .
PREPARATION
This simple prep will be the foundation to your festival looks.
1. After washing, use a lightweight styling mousse on damp hair. Try Salon Science Swiss Apple Cellumax Volumising Foam (£15, Boots).
2. Blow-dry hair to one side then blow-dry to the other side, giving body at the root.
3. Use flat irons from the roots to top of the ears.
4. Section hair from the nape of the neck and curl 2in sections with a large-barrel curling iron to create smooth waves.
TIP: No time for tonging? Wet your hair, apply mousse then put hair into two big braids on either side of the head. Air-dry then simply let it down and run fingers through to separate.
ANGEL BRAID
This is a blend of fun meets chic. It shows off long necks and killer cheekbones.
1. Split hair into a deep side-parting and divide into two on each side of the head.
2. Dutch braid on one side of the head and secure with a clear snag-free band.
3. Do the same but start on the opposite side of the head, at the top, and Dutch braid around.
4. Bring each braid up and around so the ends are close to your forehead, then secure with a couple of hair grips.
5. Once braids are pinned and secured, snip off the bands.
6. Take it further with flower accessories. Try Pink Flower Band (£3, Primark).
7. Finish with hairspray. Try Lee Stafford, Hold Tight (£5.99, Boots).
DIFFICULTY: 5/5. Not for the faint-hearted, this will get your fingers into a twist if you find braids tricky
BEJEWELLED HAIR TUCK
Seriously pretty with a grungy edge – this hairband tuck looks tricky but is OK once you get the hang of it.
1. Start by brushing the hair out then tipping hair upside down.
2. Apply head band and position on to the forehead, pulling back over the crown, smoothing hair underneath. Try this black chain hair band (£3, Primark).
3. Tease inch-long sections from the bottom, roll up and tuck into the hair band around the back from ear to ear. Start by doing each side then tucking up the back into a roll.
4. Lightly dust the top of your head with your hands to loosen the style – messing up the hair will give a festival vibe.
DIFFICULTY: 3/5. Simple once you get the hang of rolling and tucking the hair
BRAIDED BUN
This looks like it has taken a lot of time and effort but is quick and simple – if you know how.
1. Start by creating different sized braids throughout the hair, all leading from the crown of the head. Secure the bottom with clear snag-free hairband such as 100 Pack No More Snags Hair Elastics (£2.99, claires.co.uk).
2. Once you have three or four braids, lift and pin them towards the crown.
3. Section half of the remaining hair off, leaving some down. Twist into a bun and pin into place.
4. Take pieces from the front sections, twist them and pin back towards the crown.
TIP: Use pins crinkly side down and cross two pins together to ensure the hair stays in place.
DIFFICULTY: 2/5. As long as you can do a simple plait, this style is easy to recreate
GLITTER SPACE BUNS
A fun and simple look. Sleek or messy, the style will look great by simply twisting and pinning into buns.
1. Section into middle parting.
2. Fix into high bunches.
3. Lightly back-comb each ponytail.
4. Twist into a bun and pin.
5. Pull out the buns for a messy finish.
6. Spray the parting and sprinkle with glitter. Try Glitter Pot (£1, theworks.co.uk).
7. With a comb, spread out the glitter and spray again. DIFFICULTY: 1/5. If you can do bunches, this is a free-for-all
