Angry Mumsnet user slams shoe brand Office for telling women to keep their legs fuzz-free this summer
Katy, 24, was appalled that the brand sent out the mailer and said she would not be made to “feel bad” for going outside with hairy pins
AN ANGRY woman has criticised high-street shoe chain Office for sending out an email reminding female customers to shave their legs.
Mumsnet user Katy, whose surname and location is unknown, was appalled that the brand sent out the mailer and said she would not be made to “feel bad” for going outside with hairy pins.
The 24-year-old vented her fury in an online forum and received messages of support from other outraged shoppers.
Katy received a promotional release from Office last week called “Show a little leg”, while the tagline read: “Just don’t forget to shave them.”
Venting her fury, and wrote: “I got an email this week from Office trying to sell me summer shoes, the email also told me to forget to shave my legs.
“AIBU (Am I being unreasonable) to not want a business who wants female customers telling them they need to shave their legs?
“I shave my legs because I know people I encounter day-to-day will be horrified by body hair on a woman, but I don’t need a business trying to make me feel bad if I choose to go outside without doing so.”
She finished the rant: “Or trying to make me feel disgusted by something natural.”
Katy contacted Office to share her views but has not yet received a reply.
Some mums agreed with her, describing the email as a “repellent” message to send out.
User Backingvocals wrote “If there's one thing you should be able to buy without being body shamed it's shoes” while Peyia described it as “odd marketing”.
But others suggested there were more important things to get annoyed about and accused Katy of “over-thinking things”.
User wheresthel1ght joked: “I never remember to shave mine so would appreciate the reminder.”
While Ffitz commented: "I think it was probably a bit of a joke about the warm weather we're having rather than a dictatorial announcement. I wouldn't worry about it. I've got very stubbly legs at the moment."
The Sun has contacted Office for comment.
