The ugly plastic shoes are bad for your health, according to foot experts
Podatrists say the rainbow-hued clogs should not be worn for lengthy periods of time
They're the oddly shaped rubber shoes that became the laughing stocking of the fashion world when they hit shops in 2002.
Despite the criticism, the ugly plastic clogs became an unlikely style hit amongst dog walkers, gardeners and young children.
But it seems those who ridiculed the colourful footwear were in the right all along.
Leading foot experts have slammed the flat, rainbow-hued soles as being bad for our health.
Dr. Megan Leahy, a Chicago-based podiatrist with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, told Huffington Post: “Unfortunately Crocs are not suitable for all-day use.”
She added: “These shoes do not adequately secure the heel. When the heel is unstable, toes tend to grip which can lead to tendinitis, worsening of toe deformities, nail problems, corns and calluses.
“The same thing can happen with flip-flops or any backless shoes as the heel is not secured.”
While Dr. Alex Kor, the president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine told the website: “Patients are more likely to have foot pain if their shoes bend in the shank.”
He claims the only people who will benefit from wearing Crocs are those with a “very high arch” or those who experience “excessive edema” – swelling in the legs.
In summary, Dr Kor says the clogs aren’t appropriate to wear “8-10 hours a day”.
Medical misdemeanours aside, Crocs have now sold more than 300 million pairs in 90 countries.
They were originally developed as a boating shoe by American businessmen, Scott Seamans, Lyndon ‘Duke’ Hanson and George Boedecker.
Celebrity fans include the Duchess of Cambridge, who sported a bright red pair while taking part in a rowing race, and Helen Mirren, who donned a Union Jack adorned pair while on American talk show, Jimmy Fallon.
