Silent extra Blue Steels the show in Coronation Street’s cop shop scene

Getting your break on Coronation Street is a big deal for a struggling actor.

But what do you do if you’re not given any lines?

You go all Zoolander and steal the spotlight with a full-on Blue Steel.

That’s exactly what happened in last night’s dramatic “Callum uncovered” episodes.

As prime suspect David was being grilled by an aggressive female cop at the police station, her silent sidekick was posing up a storm.

Clearly hired as a non-speaking extra, the dark-haired Ben Stiller lookalike was Blue Steel-ing for all he was worth.

The dramatic episode saw Kylie and David arrested on suspicion of murdering Kylie ex Callum.

His body was unearthed under the floor of Gail’s annex bedroom during the car crash aftermath of Carla and Nick’s doomed wedding.

Jack P. Shepherd – as young dad David – put in one of his finest performances in the cop shop scenes.

He even raised a laugh when the female cop demanded whether something happened “just like that”.

He joked: “Do you do Frank Spencer?”

But Mr Blue Steel didn’t crack.

Ben Stiller’s famously vain supermodel, Derek Zoolander, invented the Blue Steel pose in the classic 2001 movie.

Last month we revealed the reason behind the silent stars of soap, including the customers in Audrey’s salon.

They keep mum because the minute the utter a word, they cost the production an extra £5.50.

The basic daily rate for a “background artist” is £84 but if dialogue is required that shoots up.

But the ploy has never been quite so obvious as in last night’s episodes, with the silent Corrie copper.

Despite the action, it was hard to keep your eyes off the Zoolander wannabe.

Kylie (Paula Lane) killed Callum last year, after he attacked a heavily pregnant Sarah (Tina O’Brien) in the dramatic live episode to mark the soap’s 60th birthday.

Last night, slippery David cleverly pointed the finger at builder Jason Grimshaw, who built the annex after the drug dealer disappeared.
