IT'S a bugbear many of us have absolutely no idea how to deal with - the baffling task of folding a fitted sheet.

Fruitless attempts to match up those elasticated corners and pack it away into a nice, neat bundle often leaves the offending linen more creased than when it first came out of the washing machine.

Frankly, how to avoid it turning into a wrinkled, lumpy mess is a complete and utter mystery.

That is, until now.

Professional interior designer Mary Elizabeth is swooping to the rescue of distressed folders across the world, complete with an enormous orange bow.

The YouTuber from California has posted a foolproof tutorial on bedding, covering all aspects from washing pillows to making the bed, storing linen and, most importantly, folding the sheets.

She explains: "I know every single technique and let me tell you, this one is the easiest, at least for me."
The first step to folded glory involves holding the sheet horizontally from inside the two corners.

Next, bring your right hand to meet your left hand and fold the right corner over the left.

Then bring your right hand in to replace the left.

Using your newly-freed left hand, smooth and shake out the bottom until the corners naturally meet.

Then place your left hand in the left corner pocket to secure it and raise the whole sheet back up.

Again, bring the right corner to meet the left and once more fold it over the top.

All corners should now be together - and you're nearly there.

Next, run your right hand along the top, leaving about 12 inches folded over and an overall square-ish shape.

Then place it on a flat surface and fold it normally into as big or small a bundle as you wish.

Satisfying or what? And just think of the space you'll free up in your laundry cupboard now your sheets are no longer the bulky, crumpled piles of despair they were before.

Mary Elizabeth, we salute you.
