Is this the dirtiest changing room in Britain?

These shocking photos were snapped by a disgusted female customer at Pyramids Swimming and Leisure Centre in Exeter, Devon, last weekend.

The vile snaps show large clumps of soapy hair clogging up the drains, filthy toilets and what looks like bird poo all over the floor.

It may have cost just £11 for the family of four to go for a swim but dad Brendan Caylor admitted he would think twice before returning to the pool.

He explained: “They haven't sorted the changing rooms out in the last five years, it's absolutely disgusting.”

Mr Caylor said he complained to management about the state of the facilities

Mr Caylor said he complained to management about the state of the facilities, who assured him they would be cleaned shortly.

But these pictures, taken by his partner AFTER the management had reportedly cleaned the area, suggest they didn’t do a very good job.

The images show a a dirt-covered windowsill, a dirty shower unit and hygiene packaging from a swimming costume.

Mr Caylor, who works in Exeter but is from Okehampton, said the male facilities were okay but in dire need of refurbishment.

He told how he used to frequently visit Pyramids for a swim but was disappointed nothing seems to have been done to improve the pool for several years.

Mr Caylor said: “Pyramids is often described as skanky but I don't understand why it is left unchallenged?

"It seems no-one can be motivated to do anything about it.

"Management or the council just needs to do something about it to clean it up.”

Bizarrely, the facility doesn't rate too badly on Google reviews.

It boasts 3.8 stars out of five, with one user remarking a year ago: "Love your swimming pool."

Though Dan Noz, who visited the leisure centre six months ago, admitted: "This place could really use some refurbishment."

Mr Caylor added he would be wary about taking his family back to the 70-year-old pool in Exeter, which is a shame as it is a “reasonably-priced facility”.

He said: “Unless you have £70 spare a month for David Lloyd, there aren't many options on a rainy day for a family.”

Responding to a request for comment from , Exeter City Council said the grim photographs provide evidence as to why a new £26m leisure complex and swimming pool has been mooted.

A spokesperson explained: "This is exactly why residents in Exeter have supported St Sidwell Point, a world class leisure complex.

"Exeter City Council are working tirelessly to make it happen so people can have swimming facilities they are truly proud of.

"With three pools including a confidence pool, a spa and great soft play facilities for youngsters, St Sidwell's Point will do just that."
