Stay sizzling hot this summer

But while home-cooking a meal from scratch is great when you are in, Vicky knows it’s not always as easy to stay on track when you are eating out.

That’s why she’s come up with my BBQ survival tips that will have you staying slim while not missing out this summer.

Stay bikini ready with Vicky’s tips

There is no point working out and looking great if you can’t go out with friends and enjoy it.

Vicky said: “I love nothing more than a summer BBQ with my friends and family and just because it’s not on my meal plan, it doesn’t mean you have to avoid it.

“Knowing how to keep your grilled feast healthy is key, and I’ve got you covered.”

  •  Kebabs are the healthiest, tastiest option to chuck on the BBQ.
If you are invited to, or hosting, a BBQ, make sure you are armed with lots of these.
Chicken or prawn kebabs are Vicky’s favourite. Just get some wooden skewers, push on your meat, and add chopped up veg like peppers, onions and courgettes. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper and any of your favourite herbs and you are set. Serve with a leafy side salad.
  •  Ditch the bun. Let’s face it, the best part of a burger or hotdog is the meat so get rid of the carby calories. Swap the bread for large lettuce leaves (such as romaine or Chinese lettuce) to make a low-calorie and naturally gluten-free alternative to a burger bun. Just add your toppings to your burger and wrap around.
  •  Sauces can contain a lot of sugar. Try swapping to low-sugar versions if you can, or use only a small amount. You’ll be surprised how unhealthy some are.
  • Drink lots of water. All-day BBQs can get quite boozy (especially if you’re lucky enough to have a sunny day). Alternate alcoholic drinks with water to help reduce the “empty” calories from alcohol and keep yourself hydrated.
  •  Swap the ice cream dessert for a home-made protein lolly.

Recipe

*Mix 250ml semi-skimmed milk with your favourite protein powder — mine is the Mini:Shake Strawberries and Cream flavour.
*Pour into lolly moulds and freeze.
These are healthy and you’ll be everyone’s favourite host if you make them up.
