‘From mum to nanna in three hours’: Mum and daughter give birth to baby girls just three hours apart
Kay Henry, 34, and daughter Sophie Jenkins, 19, experienced something very few mothers and daughters ever do
A MUM and daughter gave birth to baby girls side-by-side in the same hospital just three hours apart.
Nurse, Kay Henry, 34, and daughter Sophie Jenkins, 19, from Cardiff, went through their pregnancies together and both gave birth at the University Hospital of Wales.
New mum Sophie welcomed her first baby Arya Kay Patricia with her partner Adam, 19, at 8.56pm on February 4, while mum Kay gave birth to her fourth child Tiana Rose just after midnight.
Kay said: "I can't believe we got pregnant at almost exactly the same time but it has turned out to be the most wonderful experience ever.
"We have been through our whole pregnancies together. We both had 4-D scans and both found out we were having girls at the same time. As our bumps grew we'd feel each other's baby kicks.
"We even had some of the same cravings - crushed ice. One day we just pulled up to McDonald's and asked for a cup of ice. The server must have thought we were very peculiar indeed!
She added: "I have become a mum again and a first-time grandma in a very short space of time. It's a miracle to think these babies are from different generations and yet they will grow up so close.
Kay who already has two other children Shanade, 11, and Troy, eight, with her husband Darren, 34, a care worker said: "When I was told my granddaughter had been born I was thrilled and overcome with emotion that my own daughter had just given birth to her first child.

"My labour was going well but the baby became stuck and the doctors told me I would need a c-section.
"I asked the doctor if we could hold on a little bit so my daughter and grand-daughter could have their own birthdays. It may have sounded crazy but it was important. My baby wasn't in distress so the doctor agreed."
Finally, Kay was taken down to theatre and was put under a general anaesthetic.
Kay said: "Sophie and I couldn’t quite take it in as we put the girls side-by-side. Two generations born just three hours apart.
"Becoming a mum and grandma at the same time has given me a joy I can't even begin to put into words. Arya is actually a few hours older than her auntie."
The pair vow to exchange tips and share baby clothes as they raise their little girls.
Sophie added: “Now the girls are here we’ll be doing everything together, it’s so much less daunting this way.
“It’ll be nice experiencing the same things at the same time and I know I can go to her for anything, from parenting tips to sharing baby clothes.
"Our girls will grow up with an unbreakable bond which is just amazing."
