BLURRED LINES

Men really are ‘growers’ or ‘showers’ – new scientific study defines which camp you’re in

WHEN it comes to penises, there's no two that look or behave the same.

But there can be similar patterns - like how some men are able to "grow" more than others when turned on.

A has confirmed that men are indeed either "showers" or "growers".

For years, there's been debate over whether men really do grow or not but new research has finally proven that the urban myth is true.

Entitled "Grower or shower? Predictors of change in penile length from the flaccid to erect state", the study looked at 274 men.

Most men were showers

26 per cent were found to be "growers", with an average growth of 5.3cm.

"Showers", on the other hand", had an average growth of 3.1cm.

Researchers considered what could be behind that ability to grow, including race, smoking, erectile dysfunction, obesity and other issues - but none were found to influence penis size.

But growers did tend to be younger than showers.

The average grower was 47.5, compared to the average 55.9-year-old shower.

Growers tend to be younger

We previously revealed that your penis can shrink as you age, so that might go some way to explaining the size difference.

The old meat and two veg will get smaller, as fatty deposits build up in the arteries and reduce blood flow.

This can cause the muscle cells in the erectile tissue to degenerate and wither away.

And it increases the risk of erectile dysfunction.

Another cause can be a build up of scar tissue, from years of small injuries during sex or sports.

The scar tissue can also affect the erectile tissue and cause shrinkage.

Showing or growing can be down to elastic fibres

But this study isn't conclusive for every man, as all of those who took part were being treated for erectile dysfunction issues.

Back in 2015, another study suggested that being a shower or grower could be down to elastic fibres in the penis - which can be affected by age, health or genes.

In general, the average penis is way smaller than many of us think.

And there's nothing you can do to make it bigger beyond simply staying active, eating healthily and having sex regularly.

Studies have found that the phrase "use it or lose it" is actually true when it comes to male genital health.

So go forth and put your member to good use - regardless of whether it shows or grows.
