And he tore into an NHS staff member who boasted of promoting “anti-whiteness” in her job.

The health service spends tens of millions of pounds every year on diversity roles - while 7.5 million Brits languish on waiting lists.

Writing exclusively in The Sun on Sunday, Mr Streeting said the NHS must focus on treating patients rather than wokery.

He writes: “How is it that the value of equality became so distorted, that the NHS was funding a member of staff who described their practice as ‘anti-whiteness’?

“How is that, in the name of inclusion, the word ‘woman’ has been erased from NHS documents?”

He adds: “But the NHS has got to stop doing daft nonsense. It is going through the worst crisis in its history. It can’t afford to be distracted by ideologues.

“I’ve told the NHS to get back to basics.

“I say this as a gay man from a working class family. “

Mr Streeting said these people “aren’t traitors to the NHS - they are refugees” and vowed to “fix our broken NHS and treat them.
