SUN on Sunday readers have helped raise £10,000 for brain tumour girl Mercy Cuthbertson in just a week.

The five-year-old now needs just £10,000 more to get treatment that will hopefully save her life.

Yesterday, Mercy, from North Tyneside, squealed with joy behind the wheel of a bus and enjoyed a VIP ride courtesy of Go North East, which has donated £500.

Mercy said: “I love buses so this has been amazing.”

Her parents have already raised £80,000 towards the £100,000 target which could allow her to take part in one of two clinical trials abroad.

Mercy, six tomorrow, was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma last year.

She has already gone through three brain surgeries, 28 radiotherapy sessions and intense physiotherapy.
