‘You made my day’ cry Tiktokers as doctor reveals average penis size and busts common myth
A DOCTOR has revealed the average size of a penis - and it's much smaller than you think.
Men often compare their shaft length against “the average” to see whether their own is smaller or larger than most.
Dr Jen Caudle, from Pennsylvania, US, said in a video that the "average size of a flaccid penis is 3.61in (9.1cm)," while "the average size of an erect penis is 5.17in (13.13cm)".
In her TikTok, the medic explained that it was "important to talk about" the topic to eliminate the "societal pressure" that both men and women feel to look a certain way.
"It's important to talk about penises, vaginas (...) I want to impart some knowledge about what the true average size that penises tend to be," she explained.
"One reason is I think most people think the average penis size is a lot longer and larger than it is.

"Number two, there's a lot of societal pressure to be a certain way; this goes for both men and women, and I'm not a fan of it.
"So I want to tell you some facts that will hopefully help set the record straight on what is [the average size].
"The bigger message here is to know that you're fine just the way you are; that's the most important message I'm trying to give with this video."
She also stressed that size does not always make a difference in the bedroom, despite many believing 'bigger is better'.
"Know you are enough and understand that a penis size does not necessarily determine pleasure between partners," she explained.
The clip has recently resurfaced, has over 1.4million views, and hundreds commented to thank the doctor for the information.
One user said: "That means I'm packing baby. I never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth. I'm running for president now."
Another added: "I've waited my entire life to say this - yay, I'm above average! Barely but above. You made my day".
A study, which came out in February, revealed the average length of a penis has grown by 25 per cent in the past 30 years.
Writing in the , the team at Stanford University said the increase in size could be down to poor diets, sedentary lifestyles and chemicals.
Researchers have previously admitted their conclusions on penis size may be skewed.
Men who volunteer in surveys may not be honest when it comes to opening up about the size of their penis.
When the London clinic International Andrology asked 1,000 blokes about penis sizes, the responses found the average erect length in the UK is 6.36in..
But when researchers measured 15,000 penises in 2015, they found the average member when erect was 5.16in.
The team measured the penises themselves, meaning volunteers couldn't lie.
However, the team acknowledged their results still may have been wrong. They said men who volunteer to be examined may be more confident in their penis size than the general population, reported.
The NHS says most men's penises are somewhere around 9cm (3.75in) long when flaccid and between 13cm to 18cm (5in to 7in) when erect.
Research has also shown that men often think that the average penis size of their peers is larger than it truly is.

published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy said most men think a penis is 6in when erect, on average.
But this belief is in part because studies that have measured penis length have relied on self-reporting, and participants may have lied or exaggerated a little.
