Staff from across 19 trusts will share their heroic stories for the work - which will then be put on display for all Brits to see.

The project - named Our National Health Stories - will shine a light on the noble work undertaken by NHS staff across the country.

Our National Health Stories comes on the 75th anniversary of the NHS, offering staff the chance to share what it means to them to be part of the health service.

Thousands will explore, and reflect on, what the NHS stands for and what impact it has had on their lives.

Music, poetry and writing as well as drawings and paintings will feature in the mammoth project.

Actor, playwright, director and broadcaster Kwame Kwei-Armah will lead the creative team.

The artwork is set to be unveiled in November with a day-long series of events across the country.

The work will feature individual stories, sharing the impact the NHS has on Brits' day-to-day lives.

Earlier this year the NHS celebrated its anniversary at Westminster Abbey.

Nurse May Parsons, who gave the world’s first Covid jab in December 2020, wiped away a tear at the service.

She was among more than 1,500 guests including the PMPrince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, as well as TV doctors Zoe Williams and Hilary Jones at the abbey service.

Hospital staff and ambulance crews from all over the country attended, as well as 91-year-old Enid Richmond, who worked for the NHS when it began in 1948.

NHS England chief Amanda Pritchard told them the health service was “the institution that makes our nation most proud to be British”.

She praised medics and volunteers for battling the Covid pandemic and being “a beacon of hope for a nation during dark and uncertain times”.

Ms Pritchard continued: “Recent years have brought a once-in-a-century global health emergency and unprecedented challenges.

“But throughout, our staff, volunteers and partners up and down the country have continued to do what they do best – looking after patients and their loved ones.”
