‘Unhealthiest’ beers with MOST calories revealed – does your favourite pint make the list?

THE most “unhealthy” beers have been revealed - with some containing almost 300 calories a pint.

The UK’s favourite beers are among some of the worst offenders for Brits watching their weight.

An investigation, carried out by , showed four pints of BrewDog Punk IPA contained HALF of a person’s suggested daily calorie intake.

The NHS says that women should have 2,000 calories a day and that men should have 2,500 calories a day.

A pint of BrewDog’s beer rings in at a whopping 292 calories per pint.

Coming in second is Shipyard American Pale Ale with 257.

Meanwhile, San Miguel is a close third with 256 calories per pint.

In comparison, a Snickers bar contains 280 calories and there are 130 in a bag of Walkers Ready Salted Crisps.

Surprisingly, Guinness contains less than many lagers and ales, with 210 calories per pint.

Campaigners say booze is a major contributor to obesity in the UK, where two in three adults are too fat.

Research suggests the average drinker gets around ten per cent of their calorie intake from alcohol.

If drinkers are watching their weight their are some alternatives to a calorific beer.

A single gin and slimline tonic comes in at just 64 calories while a glass of prosecco comes in at roughly 80.

Official guidelines recommend that both men and women should not drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week.

This equates to six small glasses of wine, six pints of lager or five pints of cider.

The guidelines also suggest that you shouldn't binge on all your weekly units in one go and that they should be spread across the week.
