Full list of 20 Omicron symptoms has CHANGED – the signs you must not ignore

THE list of the top 20 Omicron symptoms has been updated, with two new signs of the variant you shouldn't ignore.

Brits have been logging how they feel before and after testing positive on the ZOE Covid Symptom Study app.

It's especially helpful to know what symptoms they have when infected with the variant, as it helps others look for clues they too could be ill.

Each week experts working on the study reveal the top 20 symptoms seen in Brits.

This week earache and unusual joint pains have been added to the list, with feeling down and loss of smell removed.

Still in the top 20 are symptoms like runny nose, headache, fatigue, altered smell and skipped meals.

Professor Tim Spector, lead scientist on the ZOE Covid Study app, said: "We have things like cough at number six, and other ones there that you might recognise worth looking at.

"You've got all these muscle aches, altered smell, skipped meals, chest pain, earache and lots of others."

The top 20 symptoms:

  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Sneezing
  • Persistent cough
  • Hoarse voice
  • Other
  • Unusual joint pains
  • Chills or shivers
  • Fever
  • Dizzy
  • Eye soreness
  • Brain fog
  • Unusual muscle pains
  • Altered smell
  • Skipped meals
  • Swollen glands
  • Chest pain
  • Earache

The Office for National Statistics also revealed the top three symptoms they have seen reported - a cough, fatigue and headache.

These vary from the three main symptoms of coronavirus set out by the NHS, which have not changed since Covid reached our shores in March 2020.

The NHS still lists a new persistent cough, a loss of taste and smell and a high temperature as the key signs of Covid.

But it's important that if you think you have Covid from any known symptom you get a test and isolate for five days full days and take lateral flows to be released.

While Covid won't be a mild illness for everyone, most people who have had the variant say it's like a cold.

A string of hugely positive studies show Omicron is milder than other strains in the vaccinated, with the first official UK report revealing the risk of hospitalisation is 50 to 70 per cent lower than with Delta.

It comes as cases of the variant are starting to drop, although remain high.

Last night the Government's daily Covid cases fell by another 16 per cent on last week, as Boris Johnson ripped up Plan B restrictions.

Some 108,069 new Covid infections were reported by the UK Health and Security Agency yesterday, down from the 129,587 last Wednesday.

The total cases reported in the past week (652,469) is down 37 per cent on the total from the week prior.

Prof Spector added: "It’s great to see cases falling rapidly.

"While it is easy to think the worst is over, our health service is still not functioning properly, and complacency will inevitably lead to trouble.

"The ZOE data is already showing an uptick in symptomatic cases in children due to the back to school effect.

"With cases still high and restrictions being lifted, we’ll just have to hope that people remain sensible, their households are triple vaccinated, and regardless of official advice, that everyone knows to isolate and self test when experiencing cold-like symptoms.”
