Covid booster jabs hits new milestone — with 10m people given third vaccine

BRITAIN’S booster jabs campaign will hit a new milestone today — with ten million people given their third vaccine shot.

It means the NHS is inching towards its target of topping up the immunity of elderly and vulnerable people before winter sets in.

Six in ten over-50s have now had a booster and a further three million will be offered one this week.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid last night called on the nation to come together to help those at risk get their booster jab.

He said it was vital to save lives, protect the NHS and remove the threat of a fresh lockdown or tighter restrictions.

Mr Javid said reaching the ten million jabs milestone was a “phenomenal achievement”.

He added: “If we all come together and play our part, we can get through this challenging winter, avoid a return to restrictions and enjoy Christmas.”

The three million letters due to land this week will mean 16 million invitations have been sent.

Boosters have been given in almost every older adult care home in England.

Seven in ten over-80s have had a third dose.

Booking rules will be updated tomorrow to speed up the drive.

Yesterday Covid cases fell by 3,336 from Friday to 30,693.

Deaths were down 38 to 155.
