Vegans fuming about Wetherspoons’ £3.50 meat-free ‘full English’ that includes half a tomato and one mushroom

IT'S the only breakfast we'll eat when we've got a hangover and our all-time ultimate comfort food.

But while you can find us tucking into a Wetherspoons Full English every Sunday morning come hell or high water, vegans have been left fuming after the chain's "meat-free" offering failed to live up to expectation.

While the price of a traditional full English varies around the £5 mark in Wetherspoon pubs, the chain first launched their £3.25 vegan-friendly fry-ups back in October 2018.

However, vegans are now complaining about Wetherspoon's "disappointing full English" consisting of just half a tomato, a mushroom, and some buttered toast and hash browns.

Sharing a photo of his lacklustre full English on the Vegan UK Facebook page, Graham Thompson wrote: "Disappointed with the Wetherspoon's vegan breakfast this morning.

"Small... half the plate filled up with a piece of toast. Am I being just harsh and greedy?"

However, fellow members of the group have been left shocked by the lacklustre vegan option.

One wrote: "One mushroom and HALF a tomato?? What are they saving the other half for??

"Most place do double this AND you get two slices of toast, jam and a hot drink on the side!"

Another unhappy customer added: "It's awful. I would have sent mine back but was hungry.

"There are many other wonderful vegan breakfasts available elsewhere but this effort was the worst I've had. It is very dry. Shame on you Wetherspoons."

Meanwhile, a third wrote: "Poor effort... no beans, ridiculous... just use the regular ones."

Jumping to the defence of their £3.25 vegan fry up, a spokesperson for Wetherspoons said: "This is the vegan breakfast specification (it comes with two vegan spread in packs on the side but has been put on the toast in the picture.

"We use the no added sugar baked beans [which contain an unspecified ingredient derived from animals] and have been in conversation with Heinz to make them vegan.

"Yes, we could do the regular beans but that adds a lot of calories and we serve over 350,000 non-vegan breakfasts each week with the beans.

"It's £3.25 in most pubs, we believe it is a good breakfast for the price but always happy to listen to feedback."

In more bonkers food news, disgusted shoppers have blasted limited-edition tomato sauce ICE CREAM and labelled it "an abomination".

And Heinz fans have been left outraged as the brand launches two new mayonnaise flavour mash-ups, including Mayaomust mustard and Mayocue barbecue.

Plus fruit lovers have been left amazed after a viral video shows we've all been eating pineapple "wrong" for years.
