Nigella tweeted her secret ingredient on Monday, labelling Marmite spaghetti her "recipe of the day".

The savoury dish is a simple one to make - Nigella advises adding unsalted butter and around a quarter of a teaspoon of Marmite per person to a pot of cooked pasta.

Then add freshly grated parmesan cheese - et voila!

, Nigella said: "I know the combination of pasta and Marmite sounds odd to the point of unfeasibility - but Marmite offers saltiness and savouriness the way a stock cube might."

Commenting on the thread, horrified amateur cooks said: "This is possibily worse than pineapple pizza", and "No Nigella no!! Not marmite!!"

Others shared sick face emojis and shocked gifs.

One bloke even joked: "Nigella, go stand in the corner, and think about what you’ve done!" although others admitted this was their guilty pleasure.
