THE Duchess of Sussex is supporting a new charity cookbook as her first solo endeavour.
Meghan Markle has written the foreword to Together: Our Community Cookbook, sharing recipes from women who were brought together in the aftermath of the Grenfell fire.
What is the cookbook?
The book shares dozens of recipes from across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.
They are the personal recipes from a group of women who came together following the tower block fire in West London on June 14 last year, which claimed at least 72 lives and left hundreds homeless.
With their homes destroyed and some staying in hotels with no cooking facilities, they gathered in the communal kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in West London.
There they cooked and prepared fresh food for their families and neighbours, and began to heal as a community.
The Royal Foundation’s website said: “Word spread and more women joined in – this was the start of the Hubb Community Kitchen.”

And it is already No1 best seller in books on at £9.99
It is also available on the Waterstones website.
The profits from the cookbook will go towards keeping the kitchen open seven days a week.
It’s hoped the book will sell 50,000 copies, and if it reaches this figure it means £250,000 will be raised for the Hubb Community Kitchen.
is administering the transfer of funds from the sale of ‘Together" to the Hubb Community Kitchen and related projects.
Meghan Markle wrote a three-page foreword in the book in which she says: "This cookbook is a celebration of life, community and the impact of coming together."
How did Meghan get involoved?
Meghan first visited the kitchen – which ran for two days a week - in January 2018, and continued to make personal visits.
said: “United by their passion for cooking as a way of bringing communities together, The Duchess was inspired by how the project empowers women at a grassroots level and has championed the cookbook project as a way of ensuring the kitchen can continue transforming lives and communities through cooking.”
And herself said of the project: “I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together.
“Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to…
“Through this charitable endeavour, the proceeds will allow the kitchen to thrive and keep the global spirit of community alive.”
What recipes are there?
The book contains 50 personal recipes from the women behind the community kitchen.
The influences and styles range from across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Some of the dishes include green chilli and avocado dip, coconut chicken curry, aubergine masala, Persian chicken with barberry rice, caramelised plum upside-down cake and spiced mint tea.
