Americans ‘discover’ the chip butty and Brits are left in stitches

American website The Insider posted a video of a Turkish takeaway bar serving up the classic British favourite, only they called it a "sandwich stuffed with fries"

BRITS love a roast, beans on toast and a classic curry night, but possibly top of our "guilty pleasures" list is a lovely chip butty.

American website The Insider posted a video of a Turkish takeaway bar serving up the classic British favourite, only they called it a "sandwich stuffed with fries"... and UK Twitter users found it hilarious.

The foodie site's tweet - which included a three-minute video dedicated to the marvellous snack - also included a hands-on-face shocked emoji.

One person simply informed them: "Ffs that’s a chip butty."

While another agreed: "This is almost as embarrassing as when Americans discovered the sausage roll last year, like it was some sort of world changing groundbreaking discovery.

"Meanwhile in Britain we’ve been having this food for years and years and years."

And another Twitter user replied saying: "Imagine the meltdown when they "invent" this" with a picture of a pie and gravy in a bun.

But he wasn't the only one to back the pie butty.

Another Twitter user said: "It’s a chip butty, sold in every chippy in the UK since forever.

"Now if you’re impressed with that a pie butty, affectionately known as a Wigan Kebab, will really bake your noodle."

The only way to make chips better is by making them CHEESY BACON CHIPS

Another chap chipped in with a third butty suggestion: "That's a chip butty. Can't wait for you to discover a fish finger sandwich."

And another said: "Since the dawn of time we in the UK have called that a chip butty.

"Not sure why you felt the need for the Scream emoji. Can just imagine your excitement if you ever encounter garlic bread... This bread has garlic inside it. Wow!"

And another tweeted a sarky picture of James Cordon clapping with the caption: ";Every person in the UK right now."

Reportedly us Brits will eat 18,000 sandwiches in a lifetime and spend more than £48k – but can you guess the most popular?

Plus change this ingredient in your toasted cheese sandwich and you’ll never look back.
