A PURSE-FRIENDLY gin sold at Lidl has beaten costly favourites in a blind taste test.
The Lidl Hortus Original London Dry Gin, £15.99, has just beaten Sipsmith, Gordon’s, Bloom, Aldi, M&S and Tesco in the most recent Good Housekeeping Institute taste test.
The bargain beverage is half the price of leading branded alternatives – all of which scored lower in the well-respected test.
Scoring a whopping 77 out of 100, judges praised the Lidl gin for its “herby aromas with tangy citrus notes followed by lots of liquorice, citrus and a light, smooth texture.”
Meanwhile, gin favourites such as Sipsmith London Dry Gin, £28.99, scored 73/100 and Gordon’s London Dry Gin, £14.50, scored 74/100.
