Experts reveal the shelf life of every cheese... and many last longer than you think
THIS Christmas, a cheeseboard will no doubt be making an appearance on your Christmas spread.
While we love to try them all, by the end of Christmas lunch they are pushed at the back of the fridge and are surely forgotten about. So here experts reveal the shelf life of every cheese..
Hard cheese
According to Tasting Table, hard cheeses have the longest lifespan.
Parmesan lasts up to six weeks in the fridge once opened.
If unopened, hard cheeses such as Pecorino and Cheddar, to name a few, can last up to six months.
This means, you can enjoy your cheesy Christmas leftovers well into the new year.
Semi-hard cheese
Spot some mould? With semi-hard cheeses you can cut it off at about an inch thick around it and continue eating.
According to shelf life guide, Still Tasty, cheeses such as Emmental and Edam can last up to three weeks once opened in the fridge.
Alternatively, you can freeze semi-hard cheeses for up to two months.
Soft cheeses
These cheese types have the shortest lifespan, namely because their moisture means bacteria will thrive.
Subsequently, you must eat soft cheeses within two weeks once opened.
