OH NO BREW DON'T

‘Cheese tea’ is the crossover drink nobody is asking for… and it could be coming to the UK

The beverage does exactly what it says on the cup: it's flavoured tea with a load of cheese in it

HAVE you ever got halfway through a cup of tea and said to yourself, "I know what this is missing: a big block of cheddar"?

That thought has probably never crossed your mind, of course, but unfortunately it has crossed someone else's.

Cheese tea is the culinary mash-up absolutely nobody was asking for, and it may be on its way to being sold in Britain.

The beverage does exactly what it says on the cup: it's flavoured tea with a load of cheese in it.

But, bizarrely, the drink is proving to be a hit in America and all throughout Asia, where the unusual brew originated.

And while there's nothing wrong with cheese and tea separately, there's a reason we've been dunking biscuits and not blocks of cheddar all this time.

Photos posted to Instagram reveal what the unholy alliance looks like, showing a thick layer of cream cheese added to the top of a regular flavoured tea.

Whatever the opposite of food porn is, this is probably it.

However, the unusual pairing of tea and cheese was no accident - the idea is that the cheesy foam on top distracts from the bitterness of the tea itself.

And when the cheese is stirred into the beverage, the drink supposedly takes on a milkshake-style consistency.

The cheesy drink is sold at a number of tea shops, including a speciality Indonesian brewer called Cheese Tea.

Naturally, the idea has been met with disgust when floated in the UK, but not everyone is against the unusual marriage.

's Kate Springer described the taste as "so rich, I feel a little ill."

But she continues: "When I swallow the tea and cheese together, it’s like drinking a refreshing tea milkshake.

"This pairing actually works — the salted cheese plays up the tea’s floral notes, and the tea, in turn, tastes smooth and creamy."
